Paul Poiret – Dreaming of the Orient

Young Paul Poiret dreams of a great future as a fashion designer. During the day he delivers umbrellas to fashion houses; in the evening he draws fashion designs in his room, bringing them to life with scraps of umbrella silk. The famous fashion house Worth gives Poiret a chance. But his work is too avant-garde for the chic customers, so he is fired. Disillusioned, Poiret goes travelling. In the Mediterranean he discovers a world full of colour and new loose shapes, and suddenly everything he has been trying to do in his life falls into place. Full of inspiration, Poiret designs new exotic fashions, and becomes unstoppable. Then come perfumes, furniture and wallpaper, all sold at big, magnificent fancy dress parties. The umbrella delivery boy is now the King of Fashion!
