Pépé Smit was educated at the Rietveld Academy and the postgraduate Sandberg Institute. In addition to her work as an artist, she is known for her illustrations and staged photographs for newspaper NRC Handelsblad and news magazine De Groene Amsterdammer (www.pepillustraties.nl)
The picture book Fred the (very, very stubborn) deer is her debut. The humor in her five picture books makes little children laugh and think, but also adults will have a lot of fun.
