Daan Remmerts de Vries (born 1962) studied drawing and handicrafts at d’Witte Lelie in Amsterdam. His first children’s book, Zippy and Slos, was published in 1990. His has won three Flag and Pennant prizes for his work and in 2003 he was awarded the Golden Pencil for Little God. In 2010 he received the same award for Before You Were Here. He also won a Silver Pencil in 2005 for The Northwind Witch, in 2011 for Mr. Kandinsky Was a Painter, in 2015 for Sometimes I Leave You Behind and in 2016 for Bigger Than the Sky, Worse Than the Sun.
